Service Description

This 16-hour instructor-led, video, and scenario-based training focuses on trauma-informed investigations of crimes against women, including domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and strangulation. Participants will learn practical, trauma-informed investigative techniques that improve victim safety, strengthen cases, and increase offender accountability. The course also covers the latest legislative updates from the 89th Texas Legislative Session related to crime victims’ rights and entitlements. Topics Covered: Dynamics of Domestic Violence Stalking and Coercive Control Strangulation Recognition and Documentation Evidence-Based Investigations Lethality and Risk-Assessment Trauma-Informed Victim-Focused Interviews Victim Behavior and the Neurobiology of Trauma Federal Entitlements for Victims Victims’ Right to Use a Pseudonym Scenario-Based Investigations Involving Crimes Against Women Your instructor, Julie Pleasant, brings more than 28 years of law enforcement experience and is a nationally recognized leader in trauma-informed policing and victim-centered response. As Police Administrator over the Houston Police Department's Victim Services Division, she has led innovative programs supporting more than 20,000 victims of violent crime and helped develop the Houston Domestic Abuse Response Team (D.A.R.T.), a pioneering trauma-informed response model. In recognition of her leadership and impact, Julie was named one of Houston's 50 Most Influential Women.

Cancellations within 5 days of registering are 100% refundable, unless the following restrictions apply: Due to limited seating, we request that you cancel at least 5 days before a scheduled class begins. This gives others the opportunity to register for the class. If you have to cancel your class, and do so at least 5 days before the class, you may use the credit towards any future class. At any time after registering, or within 5 days of the course, you may transfer the registration to another person.
