Service Description
Texas legislature requires all law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough pre-employment background investigation prior to appointing an applicant as a Texas Peace Officer, Jailer or Telecommunicator. This course is designed to guide investigators through a proper process to satisfy TCOLE background requirements. Students will have knowledge upon completetion of this course on: SB 24, Documentation required (CBF), Secureshare, Internal affairs (G) files, the Appointment Process Flowchart and 1701.451 Pre-employment Procedure. Topics Covered: 1. Student will be able to list the Documents needed from a Law Enforcement applicant. 2. Student will be able to identify the minimum standards required for persons to be licensed/appointed 3. Student will have knowledge of the phases required during the pre-employment background investigation. 4. Student will identify the importance of conducting & documenting a Background Investigation. 5. Student will have the knowledge on how to request access into the secure sharing platform. 6. Students will be able to explain a reason for conducting a proper and complete applicant Background Investigation. 7. Student will be able to identify disqualifiers through the background investigation. 8. Students will understand how to request, view, upload personnel files through the secured share platform. 9. Students will be able to identify the required areas to be filled out on the Background Confirmation Form. Instructor: J. Helenberg Lieutenant John Helenberg is an advanced instructor with extensive experience developing and instructing various curriculums. John served as the Director for Agency Operations for the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement and was responsible for oversight of agency audits. John has experience teaching for The Leadership Executive Management Institute of Texas at Sam Houston State University, The Justice Court Training Center and ALERRT Training Center at Texas State University, The Sheriff’s Association of Texas and The Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. John served 25 years with the Texas Military Forces, promoting to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 5 and served as a military instructor for Defensive Tactics, Physical Security, Investigations, Firearms, Use of Force, and other related topics.
Cancellation Policy
Cancellations within 5 days of registering are 100% refundable, unless the following restrictions apply: Due to limited seating, we request that you cancel at least 5 days before a scheduled class begins. This gives others the opportunity to register for the class. If you have to cancel your class, and do so at least 5 days before the class, you may use the credit towards any future class. At any time after registering, or within 5 days of the course, you may transfer the registration to another person.
